Serving others is a way of life for Julian Giardello, Independent Living Dining Room Supervisor at UMRC’s Chelsea Retirement Community (CRC). From 1991 to 1995, Julian served our country in the Marine Corps as an aircraft recovery specialist. This native of Martin’s Ferry, Ohio was stationed in Japan and Thailand, as well as in Hawaii and California.
Following his military service, Julian worked in banking for a few years, then found his passion in food service, managing a restaurant and then working at The Ohio State and the University of Michigan. In April 2017, Julian came to work at Chelsea Retirement Community. Julian’s many UMRC POM awards (Promoting Our Mission) are an indication of his dedication to the older adults UMRC serves.
On Friday, November 9th, UMRC held a luncheon to honor UMRC’s many veterans and their guests. Sixty-six residents across the Chelsea Retirement Community campus, including independent and assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care, as well as five staff members, have provided service in one of the branches of the military. These also included those who served as nurses and in the USO (United Service Organizations), as well as one who served in the British Army Royal Signals
Julian offered the welcome and keynote presentation, thanking his fellow servicemen and women for their commitment and sacrifice: “Thank you for answering the call of duty.”
