Brio Living Services Celebrates National Wellness Month

At Brio Living Services, wellness is woven into many facets of daily life. Across our communities, residents and team members have enjoyed a summer filled with activities that encourage movement, engagement, and connection -whether that is through our Balanced Living program or the resources we offer our team members. Wellness is important to us because we want to help others live their best and healthiest lives.

As part of our Balanced Living program at Chelsea Retirement Community, summer kicked off with the launch of new walking groups that brought residents together across different living areas. Independent Living residents volunteered to join friends in Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Kresge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for regular walks, enjoying fresh air, good conversation, and a few delightful run-ins with critters along the way. On these walks, residents spotted cranes, helped turtles cross the road, and marveled at a mother deer just before she welcomed her fawn.

Balanced Living shifted the fun indoors to the McMullen Wellness Center for a lively pool party. Residents reconnected with aqua-volleyball, enjoyed time in the water, and had the chance to simply relax and socialize. This month also featured the community’s third campus-wide volleyball game, an event that brought residents from across care levels together for friendly competition and teamwork!

Supporting wellness also means tailoring programs to individual needs. Through the Senior Fitness Evaluation (SFE), overseen by our wellness teams, residents receive an in-depth look at their current fitness levels and any potential health risks. The results help create a personalized exercise plan, and follow-up evaluations track progress over time. “I feel a whole lot healthier. I have lost weight and have more energy. The instructors are great!” says resident Larry Doroh. This process ensures that each resident has the right tools and guidance to maintain or improve their strength, endurance, and overall well-being.

Wellness for the Brio community includes team members, too! This summer, Health and Wellness Fairs were held at Chelsea Retirement Community, LifeCircles PACE, Thome PACE, Huron Valley PACE, and Porter Hills Village. These events connected residents and team members with valuable resources in the surrounding community—both within Brio and from local partners—so they can stay informed and supported in their health journeys.

Through these initiatives and activities, Brio Living Services continues to create an environment where health and connection are a priority. The season’s activities reflect a shared commitment to living well, supporting one another, and making the most of every opportunity to thrive together! Learn more about Brio by visiting MyBrio.org.
