Rev. John R. Morris and his wife, Karol, moved to Chelsea in 1967 and served Zion Lutheran Church for 20 years. Today, this retired pastor and model train enthusiast continues to provide Lutheran services at Chelsea Retirement Community where he sees many familiar faces. Several UMRC residents are his former parishioners from Zion. Part of its faith-based mission and Guiding Beliefs, UMRC welcomes and serves people of all faith backgrounds.
I was new to the area myself when I first met some staff and residents of Chelsea Retirement Community in 1967. When Karol and I had visitors, we toured the village of Chelsea and proudly ended with the West Middle Street campus. The founding fathers of this ministry started it well and, today, that effort continues with Christ-like love and care evident throughout. Each resident’s contribution to the welfare of the whole is included as well.
Come, interact with all here, and you will know this community is in harmony with God and one another. Give your support here – your time, talents and possessions – and you’ll know it was needed and well used. Reside here and know your care is the best. God, continue to bless us all in this ministry.
