Foundation Scholarship Helps Ian Fleming Grow in His Career at PACE
When Ian Fleming of Concord, Michigan graduated from high school, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. His mom was a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and his grandmother was a registered nurse, so they encouraged him to consider the healthcare field, Ian says. Today, thanks to a Scholarship from the UMRC-Porter Hills Foundation, Ian, who is a Lead CNA at Thome PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly), is pursuing his RN as well.
“I look forward to growing in my career,” says Ian, who is currently completing his last prerequisites before applying to the RN program at Kellogg Community College.
Ian began his career at Brio Living Services in 2016 when he worked at the Kresge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at Chelsea Retirement Community. In 2019, he moved over to Thome PACE in Jackson. As a Lead CNA, Ian especially enjoys visiting PACE participants in their homes.
“I love helping others and seeing how things are going in their homes,” Ian shares. “It’s a great feeling when participants get excited to see me.”
Married with two young children, Ian says, “The Foundation Scholarship will go a long way to help cover the cost of college and help alleviate some of the financial pressure of being a father and college student. In my ten years at Brio, I have seen nothing but generosity from everyone. I love working with our PACE participants, and I look forward to growing in my career and serving even more people as an RN.”
