After the flurry of Black Friday sales and shopping today, we ask that you think ahead to next week. Every year, after the excitement over Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday has died down, we turn to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday, to give back to the causes that are most important to us.
Giving Tuesday began in 2012 as one nonprofit’s movement to encourage philanthropic giving. It caught on, and now on Giving Tuesday people across the globe choose to give to charities and nonprofits to support the good they are doing in the world.
The UMRC-Porter Hills Foundation relies on the generous donations we receive to make a difference in the lives of older adults, and we hope that this Giving Tuesday you’ll consider including us in your charitable giving plans. The UMRC-Porter Hills Foundation supports many life-enriching services, including its cornerstone, Benevolent Care, which provides a safety net for eligible residents who have exhausted their resources. The average age of residents who qualify for Benevolent Care is over 90—these are older adults who have planned and saved, but simply outlived their savings. We rely on donors like you to help us continue this care. This fund brings peace of mind to many of our residents and their families, and your gift can continue that peace of mind for many years to come.
Giving Tuesday provides a yearly reminder to give back to our communities and the organizations who are helping our most vulnerable populations, including older adults. When our residents qualify for our Benevolent Care program, it means they will be taken care of for the rest of their lives, including advanced services like memory care if they are needed. By supporting Benevolent Care, you will be providing loving support to older adults who need it the most.
