Huron Valley PACE Expanding Its Reach to Monroe

Brio Living Services and its Huron Valley PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) program in Ypsilanti recently announced that a second Huron Valley PACE Day Center site in Monroe, Michigan was approved by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) on July 16.

Huron Valley PACE serves adults ages 55+ who live in its service area, which includes Monroe and Washtenaw counties and parts of Livingston, Oakland, and Wayne counties. PACE participants must be certified by the state to need nursing home level of care but be able to live safely and independently in their own homes and communities with the help of PACE services.

The Monroe Day Center is located at 975 S. Monroe Street and has capacity to serve 150 Monroe area adults. “We look forward to serving older adults in Monroe County from the heart of their community,” said Mimi Suntheimer, Executive Director of Huron Valley PACE. “This new Day Center will provide all the benefits of PACE in closer proximity to our existing participants who have had to travel from Monroe to Ypsilanti for PACE services. We are excited to begin serving them closer to home and to enrolling additional participants from Monroe County to our PACE program.”

One of those is Monroe resident Clara Lloyd, a participant at Huron Valley PACE for two and a half years. She currently has a 45-minute ride on the PACE bus to the Day Center in Ypsilanti and attends just one day a week. Her ride to the Monroe Day Center will be only four minutes. “I would enjoy going every day with it being that close,” Clara said.

Living with several chronic conditions, Clara can do physical therapy at PACE and see the doctors and specialists she needs. “Everything is coordinated at PACE, and they decide as a team what they will do for my care,” she explained. “PACE has helped me lose weight and get my blood pressure in check. I enjoy life, and PACE has made it even better for me.”

Luke Reynolds, Chief of Home and Community-Based Services for Brio Living Services, said, “I've seen firsthand how PACE transforms lives by helping older adults like Clara remain independent, connected, and thriving in the communities they call home. The opening of our Monroe Day Center expands access to this proven model of care, making it easier for local older adults and their families to receive the comprehensive support they need while continuing to live safely and confidently at home.”

PACE serves the psycho-social, medical, and supportive needs of its participants. PACE’s interdisciplinary team of professionals provides participants with a “one-stop” shop model for all their healthcare needs, including comprehensive medical, occupational and physical therapy, pharmacy needs, nutrition and meals, health education, social and recreational activities, behavioral health, home care, and door-to-door transportation. Most PACE participants are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid and pay no out-of-pocket fees for PACE services.

As Huron Valley PACE prepares to open its Monroe Day Center, the organization is seeking compassionate healthcare professionals to serve local older adults. Open positions include registered nurses, medical assistants, and certified nursing assistants. Interested candidates are invited to attend a Job Fair at the Monroe Day Center on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
