The Thome Rivertown Neighborhood apartments provide a unique opportunity for affordable housing and supportive in-home services available to seniors with low incomes. Rent levels are set to be affordable for persons aged 55 years and older with limited incomes and tenants can receive Medicaid-funded services in the privacy of their own home. The Detroit Area Agency on Aging is the primary funder of the personal care and health-related services in partnership with the on-site service provider Caring Hearts Home Care, Inc. Services are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

The Thome Rivertown Assisted Living provides 80 private apartments to seniors aged 55 years and older who need services to maintain their independence.

Our History

Thome Rivertown is the first and only affordable assisted living development in Detroit. It is located in a former Parke Davis pharmaceutical laboratory on the banks of the Detroit River, which was renovated as part of a major redevelopment effort on the city’s riverfront. The building, which was originally built in the late 1940’s, maintains many of its historical architectural elements in an open, loft-like setting. Thome Rivertown is proud not only to offer one-of-a-kind services to seniors in Detroit, but to be an important part of the city’s rebirth, bringing jobs and revitalization to the riverfront.
