Brio Living Services Envisions a World Without Alzheimer's
As World Alzheimer’s Month winds down in September, the fundraising efforts for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s continue around the state from Chelsea Retirement Community to Porter Hills Village. According to the 2023 Alzheimer’s Association’s Fact & Figures Report, Alzheimer’s disease is the most prevalent form of dementia, and an estimated 6.7 million Americans over age 65 are currently living with the disease. With Brio Living Services serving approximately 8,000 older adults annually, spreading awareness of this disease and raising funds for research and resources has always been a cause of utmost importance.
Chelsea Retirement Community has been participating in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s for over 10 years, and this year has a lot to be proud of. Since 2013, Chelsea Retirement Community has helped raise over $100,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association for their Walk to End Alzheimer’s efforts! Sue Prynn, Development Manager at the Alzheimer’s Association was present at the recent CRC Community Walk, to boast about this accomplishment, sharing, “We are so grateful for the commitment to one day living in a world without Alzheimer’s, and for the partnership that CRC has graciously provided for over a decade!”
Along with several other fundraisers on campus during the month of September, Chelsea Retirement Community hosted its annual walk on campus on September 14, with over 100 participants, including team members, residents, and family members decked out in their purple shirts to raise funds and spread awareness for the disease. If you were not able to attend the walk on campus, there is still time to sign up for the Washtenaw County Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sunday, October 8.
Porter Hills Village also annually participates in the Grand Rapids Walk to End Alzheimer’s and spends the early fall months thinking up fun and creative fundraisers to engage their residents, team members, and families. Some of these include a t-shirt sale, a traveling purple treat cart, a cookout, and even an elephant ear sale! These events lead up to the Porter Hills Village Purple Parade on Monday, October 2, where residents and team members will flood the campus in purple along with Generations daycare, to walk in solidarity with the cause. The event is outside at the main entrance circle drive, and all are welcome and encouraged to participate!
